PRESIDENTS 2021/22 WELCOME LETTER

Welcome Club members to the 2021/22 season,

I’d like to start off by introducing myself, my name is Guy Davenport and I have recently moved into the Presidents role for Dromana Bay Life Saving Club.

I would like to congratulate all of those that have also just been elected to new executive roles and the committee and personally thank those that have held these positions before.

We are focused, engaged and ready to look at how we can bring the club forward in new and exciting ways into the future.

Our mission is to provide a safe and enjoyable beach for all who visit. Our vision is to grow as a club and with our patrol members whilst providing an inclusive environment.

Throughout this patrol season and beyond the committee and myself will be implementing a range of exciting new options for club members.

First is the implementation of a social swimming group meeting at the club all year round.

Wednesday and Friday evenings over summer the group meets to swim, all members move through various distances and you will be sure to find a level that is best suited to you. Most swims will have members ranging from all levels of skills and ability, so be sure to come down and be a part of it!

During the off-season throughout the colder weather times the DBI (Dromana Bay Icicles) meet for a cold water swim on Saturday afternoons.

Second new highlight for club members will be the Wednesday and Friday evening get togethers. The club will now be open every Wednesday and Friday evenings throughout the clubs patrolling season. Wednesdays and Fridays will kick off with the clubs swimming group and the club will be open for all paid club members, our wonderful life members and the clubs affiliated groups to get together and socialise. All are welcome to grab some takeaway food and eat on the deck while they watch the sun set over our wonderful beach.

To showcase the rich history of the Dromana Bay life saving club and its exciting future we will be making some notable differences by giving the club some facelifts and enhancing the overall experience for its members.

We want to create an environment that welcomes and is inclusive of all people and we will commit to accommodating and supporting all groups wanting to join in to create a safe and enjoyable environment at our club and beach.

As members of the club, you are expected to read, except and follow the clubs Code of Conduct at all times. This includes during patrols, at all the club’s events and activities or when representing the club abroad.

As president I pledge to create a safe environment for children and those that may belong to any minority groups.

The protection of children is very important to the club, committee and myself and as such we are asking you to be responsible by reporting any harm or threats towards children immediately to myself or Kate Dowsett who is our clubs Child Protection Officer. Harm towards children will not be tolerated and will be dealt with swiftly and if needed will involve Police services.

To report harm towards children, contact Local Police immediately if you feel a child is in immediate danger by calling 000 or if you need to report a non-urgent breach of child protection you can call Life Saving Victoria on (03) 9676 6900 or email Kate Dowsett on: mld@dromanabaylsc.com

If you’re finding it hard joining in with club activities or patrols at the club, then reach out to me and I can help you with finding you a safe space to join in and enjoy what we have to offer.

We are always looking for new members to help with social events, sports activities and patrols so don’t be shy with asking where you can help out.

We also have an IRB (Inflatable Rescue Boat) Racing Team at our club if you’re looking for a high skill-based activity to get involved with the team trains regularly throughout the patrol season.

To be sent a link to our group chats where you can get all the up to date information including any variations to scheduled events etc please contact our secretary Anthony Thatcher on secretary@dromanabaylsc.com and be sure to include what program, info you want to be included in otherwise let him know and he can add you to all. Always remember the clubs Code of Conduct is in forced on these chat groups and is regularly monitored, aggressive or bad behaviour is not tolerated.

These chats include:

Dromana Bay Social Swimmers

Dromana Bay IRB racing team

Dromana Bay Icicles

Stay tuned for more to come.

My contact email is: president@dromanabaylsc.com and I welcome any feedback and or questions should you wish to reach out.

I’ll finish off by reminding members that we are a stronger, better club when we are supporting each other to grow. We are here to keep our community and all who visit our beach environment safe.

I wish all the members well this season and to have a safe holiday season ahead.

Regards,

Guy Davenport

President Dromana Bay LSC.
